overview

Marcus Invest’s launch was approaching and they needed to add an Invest section to the Marcus website. These designs needed to be cohesive with Marcus’ other products. They had to convey Marcus' value and competitive differentiation through effective copy and visualizations.

I came onto this project with the Marcus Invest marketing site partially designed. I picked up with designing new pages and sections, as well as completing the existing designs. I finalized the project for handoff by creating screens across breakpoints to make everything responsive.

team

For this project, I collaborated closely with a design lead, UX copywriter, two Product Mangers, several internal stakeholders, and an engineering team.

main landing page

On Marcus Invest's primary landing page, we aimed to convey the key points and differentiators of the portfolios being simple, automated, and customized. Here we showed high level views about diversification, vetted ETFs, and daily portfolio management. Then introduced Marcus Invest's portfolio strategies and fees.

our portfolios

We used this page for a deeper dive into how Marcus customizes portfolios based on the user’s timeline, risk appetite, and strategy preference. We provided education about Marcus’ stock and bond ETFs, gave a peek into how Goldman works in the background to diversify and optimize portfolios, and how Goldman teams have vetted and created strategic asset allocations for its customers.

The overall goal for this page was to reinforce that your account is all about your preferences and how you want to express yourself in your investments.

our account types

Here we presented the five investment account options. We discovered in research that new users foresaw potential difficulty and time intensiveness on rolling over their accounts, therefore we used this area to convey the ease of rollovers with Marcus.

In user testing the Marcus Invest onboarding flow, we learned that people were concerned or uncertain about if their account selection would affect their portfolio details. For new customer peace of mind, we reiterated here that no matter which account option was chosen, their portfolio would reflect their risk level and timeline.

our pricing

Pricing transparency was the primary goal of this page. We used this space to be upfront about the various fees applied to each investment account. Research revealed that fees were a big hurdle for new customers committing themselves to an investment plan. To communicate how nominal the fees would be, we implemented a slider for users to calculate annual fees based on their account balance.

Since taxes are objectively boring :), we used iconography to visually communicate how taxes would impact portfolios.

responsive design

Once designs were finalized, I created responsive screens across breakpoints.
